Darrell Is On The Move

Greetings to All of the Many People Who Are Caring and Offering Encouragement to Darrell & Bob;

It is now Day 29 post-op…..and the evening Darrell is being moved from Tucson Medical Center to a 34 bed Intensive Care Hospital called Cornerstone. For those Tucson people, it’s near Kolb and Speedway; the first right turn off Speedway after Walmart. It is a much more relaxed atmosphere to an Intensive Care Unit. It is here that Darrell will be weaned from the ventilator and stabilized for Rehab.

Bob and I visited Darrell at TMC this afternoon. He continues to have problems with secretions and coughing given his ventilator situation. When his breaths come easier, it is so delightful to catch one of his smiles and facial gestures…even a smile. I do also believe he has a grimace for ” bug off” or some similar sentiment.

There has been such an outpouring of support, that it is humbling to absorb what an impact our dear friend has had on so many. Bob is also comforted by many cards and acts of care.

I’ve sent this for insertion in 5/7′s blog…along with a humorous thought about life.

I will keep sending updates….it feels like it’s been forever…. I think Darrell must feel it is too.
He does have spirit.

Love to All, Diane

    Hello to all It is so wonderful to know Darrell is on the mend although it may be slow. I have returned to Tucson from Seattle and spoken with Diane and also Marlene. They are truly an inspiration with all they have done. I plan on visiting Bob in the next few days. Thanks Dick and Helen for all you are doing for so many. Let’s all hope and pray Darrell receives the best possible care and re-hab in his new temporary home at Cornerstone. Hugs Mary Ann

    This is wonderful news to know Darrell continues to make progress. We all hope and pray for continued good news. Please give Darrell and Bob a big hug for us and let them know they are in our thoughts and prayers.

    I had a great conversation with Bob on Sunday and felt relieved that he seemed to be in a much better frame of mind. He did have a chuckle when I told him about the little story I had put in the blog about them sitting quietly watching Bill and me struggle with the raft stairs! I also told him I would go down to Tucson and help him if he would like that and he seemed pleased that I would offer to do that.
    And the news about Darrell is encouraging. However we still have our candles burning and will continue to do so till we know that he is well out of the woods.
    Please give Darrell and Bob, both, hugs from both of us.

    I am so glad to hear that Darrell is doing better. Obviously, Darrell and Bob will not be making their swing through Pittsburgh this Spring. I will miss my visits with them.

    I check the blog usually twice a day, so keep the updates coming.
