Mama

Several readers of Growing Up In Mama’s Club have inquired about my mother. Is she alive? If so, how old is she? Is she still one of Jehovah’s Witnesses? Mama is still alive and in very good health. In fact, she had a significant birthday yesterday. And while she would find it offensive if I called to wish her Happy Birthday, she seemed pleased when I phoned and asked her how it felt to be 86. However, she was quick to remind me that she planned to live forever, it still wasn’t too late for me to join her in the new world, and that with the Bush administration still in  power, Armageddon couldn’t be that far away. I also learned that she does not watch FOX News, as she sees it as biased news reporting.

I do gets calls once in awhile from my mother (who is still a Witness) on “my day”. Wishing me a happy day. But I never dare to call her on her “day”. She used to sing a funy version of “happy birthday” to me but that has since stopped as she has gotten more and more involved in the religion since her previous disfellowship.

Mindy, that is very interesting. My mother wouldn’t dream of calling me on my birth day. It is so entrenched in her belief system that birthdays are the invention of the Devil, that to do something like that might just start her on the path “to loss of faith,” and eventual abandonment by God at Armageddon.
